A Miracle for Helen
The story of Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan went around the world. In 1882, at the age of two, Helen was blind and deaf. Sinking into her darkness, she grew up as a wild and capricious child. Her parents, in desperation, looked for someone to help them educate her. That person was Anne Sullivan, a teacher who knew how to find a way to communicate with the child through the manual alphabet, which consists of forming letters with the fingers in the palm of the other person's hand. Helen gradually learned the names of things and from that moment on her life changed radically. Ana Juan's illustrations introduce the reader to the world of darkness in which the protagonist lives. They highlight the masterful use of visual metaphor to convey fear, loneliness and frustration, but also the inner strength of the characters, immersed in an environment that gains in detail and sensory stimuli through line and color.
