    Spanish Description

    Rainbow Weaver

    About the Book

Ixchel longs to weave on a backstrap loom like her mother, grandmother, and Mayan women before her, but there is no thread to spare—her mother's weavings must be sold to pay for school. Ixchel tries grass and scraps of wool with disappointing results. Then she notices the colorful plastic bags littering her Guatemalan village. She collects them, washes them, cuts them into strips, and weaves a fabric as bright as a rainbow. Inspired by a real recycling movement in Guatemala, this bilingual English/Spanish picture book celebrates tradition, ingenuity, and caring for the earth.
