    About the Book

In this previously unpublished work, Carlos Fuentes paints portraits of the many people he met and who shaped his life. The celebrated Mexican novelist and diplomat leaves a testimony of affection that reveals the universal reach of his friendships. Part memoir, part essay, it is a miscellany of precise brushstrokes and anecdotes in which Fuentes himself plays a central role, filtered through emotion rather than sentimentality. Among those remembered here are Alfonso Reyes, Luis Buñuel, François Mitterrand, André Malraux, Fernando Benítez, Susan Sontag, Pablo Neruda, Julio Cortázar, Ignacio Chávez and Lázaro Cárdenas.
