English Translation

My Name Is Not Angelica

Torn from her African homeland by slave traders, young Raisha survives a brutal voyage across the Atlantic only to be sold at a slave market on the island of St. John in the Caribbean. Forced to work in the household of a Danish plantation owner, she soon discovers the true horrors endured by enslaved people around her. Told in Raisha's own courageous voice, this powerful historical novel brings to life the real 1733 slave uprising on St. John, a defiant act of resistance more than a century before slavery's formal abolition.
