The Little Pink Shoes

In this classic poem by Cuban writer José Martí, a young girl visits the beach with her parents, who warn her to keep her pretty pink shoes spotless. When she takes them off to splash in the waves, the shoes vanish—only to be found on the feet of a poor, sick girl who has none of her own. A tender tale of compassion and generosity, this beloved piece of Latin American children's literature teaches the joy of giving.
