English Translation

The Poet Upstairs

Too sick for school on a cold winter day, Juliana watches from her window as a tall lady in a red coat carries boxes of books and papers up to the apartment above. She is a poet, and Juliana can hardly wait to meet her. Listening to the typewriter clicking, the girl dreams of the tropical island her mother and the poet both call home. Invited upstairs, the two write a poem together, and words turn cold walls into mountains, palm trees and flowers. A lyrical picture book celebrating poetry, imagination and Puerto Rican roots.
