Composition

Skármeta's sensitive story explores a boy's experience with the military dictatorship in his country. After he witnesses his friend's father being taken away by a military jeep, Pedro begins to wonder about his own relationship with his country's government. This award-winning story focuses on an aspect of current political history that is seldom presented in children's books.
