English Translation

The Stranded Whale

Sebastián, an eight-year-old Colombian boy, wakes one morning to an astonishing sight: an enormous whale trapped on the beach. While adults argue for killing the animal to profit from it, Sebastián decides to save it at any cost, aided by the sea itself and by a string of almost supernatural events. Unfolding over a single day, this chapter book pits a child's determination against grown-up greed, turning into a poetic expression of ecological ethics. A realistic-seeming young readers' novel filled with truly extraordinary moments.
