¿Alguna vez has imaginado qué serás cuando seas grande?

Imagine

Have you ever imagined what you might be when you grow up? In this luminous autobiographical poem, former United States Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera remembers picking chamomile flowers in windy fields, letting tadpoles swim across his hands, saying goodbye to his amiguitos each time his family moved, and teaching himself to read and write English—until one day he read his poems aloud on the steps of the Library of Congress. Paired with art by Caldecott Honoree Lauren Castillo, this poem of endless possibility invites every young reader searching for a place in life to imagine what they could do.
