The Salt Mill
This is the Norwegian story of a leprechaun who works with a giant. The leprechaun patiently waits to get a mill that magically produces salt when he hears the right words. One day the giant, owner of the mill, disguises himself as an old man and in exchange for some delicious gingerbread, gives it to a young girl, warning her not to be careless because there is a goblin prowling around looking for the mill. The girl and her mother receive the device with happiness and, from that moment on, they begin to earn money selling sacks and sacks of salt. But one day they get distracted and the goblin steals them, fleeing to the mountain to enjoy his mill. However, the goblin doesn't know the magic words to control the mill, so even though he manages to activate it, he can't stop it. The mill gets out of control, produces too much salt and, after a series of events, falls into the sea, where no one can speak or, therefore, control the mill. That is the reason why the sea is so salty.
