English Translation

The Wolf Will Not Come

At bedtime, a little rabbit keeps asking his mother the same question: how can she be so sure the wolf will not come? Patiently she lists all the obstacles standing in the wolf's way, while on the facing page readers watch the wolf overcome each one, drawing closer and closer to the rabbits' home. The suspense builds page after page until a surprising, tender twist: the wolf arrives with a birthday present, and the little rabbit's endless questions were really the impatience of a child waiting for a friend.
