The Great Dream
Spring of 1881. On the Odisea, a ship leaving Barcelona for New York, Alberto, a boy without family or money, sneaks in as a stowaway. Among the third class passengers, who travel in deplorable conditions, is a couple of ruined small merchants, who aspire to a new life, Joaquina and Ventura, with their two teenage daughters: Leonor and Mercedes. With the same intention, and fleeing from justice, Ricardo travels with his wife, Concepción, and his son Gerardo. Another passenger, Narciso Redolat, wants to meet Enriqueta, the only daughter of a prosperous Catalan textile merchant whom he has married by proxy. They all emigrate to North America with the prospect of finding a better future. During the journey, friendships, rivalries, loves... will arise. But in New York it is very difficult to survive without money and dreams seem more and more distant.
