Based on a meticulous ethnographic and linguistic investigation of the most representative oral tradition stories of the country, Fabio Morábito brings together in this anthology 125 stories from regions ranging from Sonora to Chiapas, from the Tarahumaras to the Chontales and, even further, venture into California and New Mexico, to reappear later in Veracruz and Querétaro. Accompanied by illustrations created by eight Mexican illustrators, the selected stories offer a vision of the ancestral themes that have endured in the tradition of the Mexican people: the creation of the world, the appearance of the Sun and the Moon, the appearance of the first man, the rise of cities, as well as stories where humor and cunning are the central themes.
