Parrots Over Puerto Rico

Winner of the Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Award, this illustrated nonfiction picture book weaves together the history of Puerto Rico and the story of the Puerto Rican parrot, a bird that came back from the brink of extinction. For centuries, the beautiful, noisy parrots and the island's people searched for food, survived hurricanes, raised their young, and protected their homes. Then things changed, and the trees where the parrots nested were destroyed. By 1967, only twenty-four wild parrots remained. Could they be saved? From the creators of the award-winning The Mangrove Tree.
